John McIntosh
Jon McIntosh’s sensuous enchantment with bodies of water and the waters of The Florida Keys where he has resided for 13 years is evident in his body of work. These paintings are easy to fall in love with, his undulating watery scenes, swirling with blues and greens against a host of vibrant boats. The large scale of these works accentuates their deeply personal nature, as if one were walking into the water or rowing nearby.

The water glistening and smooth, in “Conch Shell Pile” flows toward a distant, sunlit horizon radiant with diamond like, and pulsating, almost turning the perspective inside out.

Tosh creates a richly textured image “Tied Up” that is both a closely observed boat on a mangrove beach with leaves and dappled sunlight which turns the work into an abstract surface churning with rich brown pigments. His degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design are eveident in the manipulation of the surface.

In still another mode, “Jubilee Bridge”, a London scene of the turbid river Themes, whose banks are framed with architectural detail, Tosh creates a resonant palette. Here the busy maritime industry bristles with an intensity that makes the artist’s scene seem cool and calm in contrast. In McIntosh’s seascapes, rapture and mystery continuously intertwine.

Jon has owned his own design company, McIntosh Ink, Inc. for many years. He has drawn the editorial cartoons for the “Key West Citizen” for nine years as well as having work many publications including “Atlantic Monthly,” “Esquire,” “Seventeen,” “Sail,” “The Farmer’s Almanac,” “INC. Magazine” and “The Boston Globe. His artwork has also been recognized with numerous awards.

Jon’s work is present in many prominent corporate and private collections in the United States and the United Kingdom.
